Some of the activities carried out by Unical have been aimed at the use of 3D surveying techniques and Augmented Reality (AR) as tools for site monitoring and management of geomineral sites. In particular, an initial activity focused on the design and experimentation of an aerial photogrammetric surveying technique for geomineral sites using aerial drones.
The implemented methodology was tested at the Colle Costantino geomineral site, located in the municipality of Acri (CS). The survey covered a partial area of the quarry, approximately 23 hectares, which will be further investigated according to the project objectives. Considering the purposes, the survey did not require specific precautions, and a classic aerial photogrammetric survey was chosen, using a drone combined with a topographic survey using a GNSS receiver with RTK correction on the ground.
This surveying technique, starting from image acquisition, allows, through the use of specific software, the generation of a three-dimensional point cloud, which, combined with the topographic survey, enables the creation of a 1:1 scale and georeferenced three-dimensional model.
Stay tuned next week to learn more about Augmented Reality!
