The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore) traces its origins back to 1175 when the City of Modena invited Pillio da Medicina to open a school for legal training. Since 1998, with the opening of the Reggio Emilia campus, it has taken on its current name, articulating itself according to an organizational model based on a "network of campuses". With over 27.000 students, Unimore is one of the largest universities in Italy.

With its 13 Departments, 16 interdepartmental centers, 5 University Service Centers, 7 University Libraries, and over 1300 professors and researchers, Unimore offers 119 bachelor and master courses and 15 doctoral schools.

In REDiRECT, the Enzo Ferrari Department of Engineering (DIEF), the Department of Engineering Sciences and Methods (DISMI), the Department of Life Sciences (DSV), and the Marco Biagi Department of Economics (DEMB) have been involved.
