UNISS continues its study, research and field investigation activities. This time, after a series of archival and literature research activities, the Ecology group went into action to start sampling water accumulations in disused quarry sites (WP 7.3).
These interesting sites, which originated at the end of the quarrying process, were created in particular to limit the risk of falling into real chasms generated by stone quarrying activities.
The UNISS ecology group, in addition to carrying out a campaign to survey the environmental parameters characteristic of the areas destined for quarrying activities in the Buddusò - Alà dei Sardi area, saw interesting environmental potential in these quarry lakes.
As sites of possible biodiversity, an initial survey campaign of the main physical, chemical and biological descriptors of the waters has been launched in order to identify the main qualitative parameters on the basis of which to classify the real potential of the areas that, at the moment, hint at interesting prospects and synergies in the environmental restoration processes of disused quarry sites.
The water sampling activities will involve, as far as possible, the same sites investigated during the WP 7.2 in order to obtain a broad cognitive picture of the natural potential both of the residual waste materials and of the water resources present.
