Within the REDiRECT project, one of the activities carried out by UNIMORE concerns the study of new formulations for ceramic bodies for porcelain stoneware, an activity that in recent months has acquired renewed importance given the difficulties in the supply of raw materials that is affecting the ceramic sector.
The activity involves the re-engineering of ceramic bodies through the partial or total replacement of foreign raw materials with domestic secondary raw materials. On the basis of the sampling data carried out by UNICAL, at the moment in-depth studies are being conducted to understand whether the raw materials currently identified are suitable for the purpose.
The same activity will be carried out on glaze and engobe mixtures.
On the basis of the results of these studies, a technological sustainability assessment will then be conducted to understand how virtuous the production process is and how much it is affected by this re-engineering for the production of ceramic materials with the properties required by the market.
