As part of the activities to disseminate the results of the REDiRECT project, a scientific contribution in the form of a poster was presented at the AIAr 2022 Conference, promoted by the Italian Association of Archaeometry and dedicated to the theme of “Sustainability in Cultural Heritage.” The event took place in Padua from June 29 to July 1, 2022.
The contribution, entitled ‘Reuse of mining waste in the construction industry’, was developed by members of the team from the University of Calabria (Unical) based on the results already obtained from ongoing research and development activities. The work is part of the process of expanding the scope of the REDiRECT project, extending the solutions studied to the construction industry.
The poster addresses the issue of reusing mining waste as a resource for the construction industry, in line with the principles of the circular economy and material sustainability. The aim of the contribution is to promote innovative approaches that reduce the environmental impact of extraction processes and encourage the use of alternative materials in production and heritage conservation contexts.
The contribution was accepted by the conference's scientific committee and was presented during the poster session, in the presence of the event participants. The presentation was curated by several members of the Unical team, including Professor La Russa, promoting discussion with the scientific community on the topics of sustainability applied to cultural heritage and buildings.
Participation in the AIAr 2022 Conference represents a further step in the dissemination of the REDiRECT project, confirming the scientific community's interest in the solutions developed and their potential for transfer to fields of application other than the original ceramics and mining sectors.
The poster presented is available for download.
