Gresmalt participated in the webinar “The Internet of Things for a Circular Economy,” organized by DiCE Lab (Digital Circular Economy Lab) and held on May 31, 2022. The event, aimed at an international audience, was an important opportunity to discuss the role of digital technologies in enabling circular economy models.
DiCE Lab is a platform dedicated to knowledge sharing and networking, created with the aim of bringing together academia, industry, and public decision-makers. Within this context, the webinar explored the contribution of the Internet of Things (IoT) to the development of service-based business models and industrial applications geared towards circularity.
The central theme of the meeting was the use of IoT technologies as a lever to support the transition to a circular economy, with a particular focus on the ability to collect data, monitor processes, and enable new forms of resource management. The approach presented highlighted the role of IoT in improving the efficiency of production systems and promoting more sustainable industrial models.
During the webinar, Marco Cucchi illustrated the contribution of IoT technologies to achieving circularity, sharing insights and experiences gained in the field of research and innovation. The presentation offered an overview of the potential of digital solutions in supporting informed decisions throughout the entire life cycle of products and processes.
The event was also an important opportunity to present the initial results of the REDiRECT project, which directly addresses issues related to the circular economy in the ceramics and mining industries, to an international audience. In particular, it was explained how the project group is working on the development of a new manufacturing model, called Circular Enterprise 4.0, aimed at integrating sustainability, digitalization, and process innovation.
The webinar helped to strengthen the dialogue between research and industry, promoting the dissemination of innovative approaches and the sharing of experiences on an international scale. Gresmalt's participation in the DiCE Lab is part of the broader dissemination of the REDiRECT project, which aims to promote concrete solutions for the transition to more circular production models.
For those who were unable to follow the event live, a recording of the webinar is available on the DiCE Lab YouTube channel.
